We’re doing this piece because given the size (30 inches) of juju hats, we’re often asked if they can be used for small spaces.
The simple answer is absolutely!
Actually, adding a big piece in a small room is one of an interior design trick that creates an illusion of grandness. However, there are certain techniques that must be used to make it work.
If you’re excited to make a big statement for your small space by adding a juju hat, read on!
Decorate your wall with a single juju hat
Multiple juju hats hanging on a wall looks like a true work of art. But for small spaces— whether the colors of the feathers are shockingly bright or not—one is enough to make a strong impact.
The good thing about juju hats is that they’re mainly used as a wall décor. And spaces where square footage is at a premium, going vertical is the way to go.
Hang one on the room’s focal point such as above your bed, sofa, or on the wall behind your dining table. You can add extra décor all around it, or below it. Just make sure that the rest won’t be too big so as not to overpower or constrict the entire room.
Place it on an area with the biggest width
Although it may look like it in photos, juju hats don’t hang flat against the wall. If you look at it from the side, you’ll see that it’s slightly protruding. Because of this, it’s best not to place it in narrower spaces of an already cramped area like bathrooms, hallways, or kitchens.
Choose an area of your home with the biggest width. This way, the hat will not impede the flow of traffic in your home. This will also prevent the risk of constantly brushing up against juju hat’s delicate feathers causing permanent damage.
As mentioned above, your best bet would be to place them on your living room—that opens up to your dining room—or in your bedroom.
Same color as your wall
As much as possible, pick a juju hat that has almost the same color as your wall. This will make the area look bigger than it actually does.
And if you’re worried that It will not take center stage because it’s perfectly blending like a chameleon to its surroundings, don’t. The eye-catching texture of juju hats will still command attention no matter what.
By the way, it’s always a good idea to stick to a few complementing colors when styling a small space. That goes for every decorative piece that you will add in. This will avoid your area from looking cluttered.
And when the time comes for you to store your juju hat, you’d be happy to know that they fold like an umbrella for easy storage! Once folded, you can easily place it under your bed, inside your closet, or any space that will not expose it to moisture and too much humidity.
