Up for sale is a large genuine collector Nkisi Nkondi figurine from the DRC and crafted in the Mid 20th Century. All pieces are genuine and from the northern regions of the DRC. These figurines are old and a great indication to that is the Patina/fading/natural wear in all pieces. Absolutely STUNNING and in excellent condition.

ABOUT NKISI NKONDI
The most powerful, most spectacular and now (in the art world) the best known Kongo minkisi belonged to the class called Nkondi, a name which means ‘hunter’. The mission of Nkondi was to identify and hunt down unknown wrong-doers, such as thieves and those who were believed to have caused sickness and death among their neighbors by occult means; nkondi could also punish those who swore false oaths and villages that broke treaties entered into under supervision.
Nkondi are typically wooden figures in the form of a human or spiritual animal such as a dog known as “Kozo” intentionally carved to provoke fear in many. This power figure also known as ‘Nkisi’ is adorned with hardware commonly nails, medicine bag, chains and sometimes blades. Each piece of metal served as a permanent, material record of an event as well as a deterrent to future crimes.
THINGS TO KNOW
- Due to age and origin, Nkisi Figurines will typically have a smoke type smell due to being stored/carved in traditional smoke huts. This is normal and to be expected.
SHIPPING
All figurines will be shipped via certified UPS Ground requiring a delivery signature. Please allow 3-4 business days for us to carefully pack and box each figurine. Shipping timeframes will vary based on location. Typical transit times range between 4-9 business days.
