TONGA STOOLS
Carved out of a solid piece of wood, Tonga stools originate from rural Zimbabwe and are hand crafted by the Batonga people/tribe found in the Binga district near Kariba and other parts of Matebeleland. Over decades Each style/design varies based on the artists taste and direction.
Many Tonga stools feature a base geometric shape with some having organic rounded/curved shapes. These are daily use stools and commonly used in rural kitchens, outdoor work and noticeably by many women artisans making Tonga or Binga baskets.
